Absaroka State Takeover

The Absaroka State Takeover isn’t your run-of-the-mill car show, as it features pre-1965 traditional hot rods, motorbikes, customs, and a Trophy Girl Pin-Up Contest. The car show has become a late summer tradition in Sheridan County, typically taking place in early August.

The name bears a bit of history as well. In 1939, a group from Sheridan attempted to secede from the state and form the “State of Absaroka” that would have included parts of Wyoming, Montana, and South Dakota. While the secession didn’t work, the Absaroka State Takeover car show pays homage to the rebellious spirit of the “state that never was”.
