A Look Back in Time: July 11, 1918

J.J. Withrow, clerk of the local board, received instructions from Cheyenne late today to entrain the last general military call of 70 men on July 24 on train No. 42 for Fort Riley, Kansas.

Women rural mail carriers may make their appearance in Sheridan county in the near future. Postmaster S.D. Canfield announced today that repeated appeals for men to fill vacancies in the rural mail service have failed, and it may soon be necessary to ask women to take on these duties.

The first of the water fountains donated to the city by Peter Kooi has been installed at the intersection of Loucks and Main streets. The second will be installed at the corner of Grinnell avenue and Main street.
