Big Horn and Tongue River Football Teams Both On The Road For Week 3 2022

September 16, 2022

The Big Horn and Tongue River football teams continue 2A East conference play tonight (September 16th) by trading opponents from last week.

BH took advantage of the fact that Upton-Sundance had yet to play a game, and cruised to a 40-to-6 road win.

Coach Kirk McLaughlin says they had no film on the Patriots to prepare, so all the team could do was fine tune a few things, and it all worked out.

Kirk McLaughlin

“There was a bit of speculating on what we think they would run, and what their personnel would be like. They definitely lost some great players from a year ago, but they still got some good kids and I’m was just impressed with the way our kids executed.”

Tonight the Rams are in Glenrock, that game is scheduled to kick-off at 7 o’clock.

McLaughlin says from what he’s seen, the Herders are trying to get back to their old style of play from a few years ago.

“They got some kids that run the ball pretty hard and they got some bigger o-linemen up front, but we got some good looks off of film and we think we can go down there and compete at a high level. Stick with the plan, but really, we’ve got to get better from week to week.”

Last week Tongue River had little to no problems with Glenrock’s old style of play, and shut them out, 43-to-zip.

Eagles Coach Steve Hanson says the Herders tried to play to their strengths, which was to put their big guys up front, wear down the opposition and create room for the other guys to run.

TR was able to endure that strategy, and when Glenrock didn’t have a plan B, the Eagles were able to do their thing.

Steve Hanson

“The one kind of nice thing about playing a team like Glenrock, is if you can hold that push up front, if you can hold up to it, they don’t have a lot else in the playbook to beat you with and our boys did a really nice job of just being physical at the point, tackling well defensively, and then offensively we were able to overcome some mistakes and get the ball into the hands of our playmakers.”

Tongue River is on the road tonight against Upton-Sundance, and that game will be played at Upton.

Ever since Upton-Sundance merged football teams 10 years ago, the Eagles have never beaten the Patriots in 9 tries.

Hanson says this is the game for U-S that’s going to define what kind of team they are, because the Patriots only have 1 game under their belt so far this season.

Steve Hanson

“A team’s greatest improvement is between their first and second game. You don’t know what you need to work on, until you get smacked a little bit. We’re expecting Upton-Sundance to perform considerably better than they did against Big Horn. Upton-Sundance, they’re an incredibly well coached team, coach Garland has had them in the playoffs every year for the last decade. They’re never an easy out for anybody.”

Kickoff in Upton is scheduled for 7pm.
